Reversi Rules
Reversi is a board game for two players, played on an 8x8 grid. The game begins with two black and two white pieces placed in the center of the board, arranged in a square. The goal of the game is to end up with more pieces of your color than your opponent's by the end of the game.
How to Play
Here’s a quick guide to get you started on your path to victory.
Starting the Game:
- One player controls black pieces, and the other controls white pieces.
- Black always goes first. The game alternates between the two players.
Making a Move:
- Players take turns placing their pieces on the board.
- Each move must result in at least one of the opponent’s pieces being flipped to your color. These lines can be horizontal, vertical, or diagonal.
Valid Moves:
- A move is valid only if it flips one or more of your opponent's pieces. If a player cannot make a valid move, they must skip their turn.
Flipping Pieces:
- Once a piece is placed, any of the opponent's pieces in a direct line (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) between the newly placed piece and another piece of your color are flipped to your color.
End of the Game:
- The game ends when neither player can make a valid move, usually when the board is full or no legal moves are left for either player.
- The winner is the player with the most pieces of their color on the board.
Additional Rules:
- If a player cannot make a valid move, they must pass their turn.
- The game can also end if both players pass their turns consecutively.
- If both players have the same number of pieces at the end, the game is considered a draw.
Tips for Winning:
- Try to control the corners of the board. Once a piece is placed in a corner, it cannot be flipped.
- Avoid placing pieces on the edges early in the game, as this can make it easier for your opponent to gain control of those areas.
- Plan your moves carefully. Sometimes it's better to pass on a turn than to make a move that gives your opponent an advantage.
