Welcome to the world of Ultimate Tic Tac Toe! This version keeps the simple rules of classic tic tac toe but adds a much bigger board and many more strategic options. Every game feels exciting, and the outcome is much harder to predict.
Ultimate Tic Tac Toe was created as a more advanced version of the classic game, which always ends in a draw if both players play perfectly. No one knows exactly who invented it. The game started spreading online in the early 2000s on forums and websites about logic games. Today, it is still quite popular.
In the Ultimate version, the board is much larger. In regular tic tac toe, the board has 3x3 cells. In Ultimate Tic Tac Toe, the main board is made up of 9 smaller 3x3 boards. That means there are 81 cells in total instead of just 9 in the classic version.
Players can only make a move in active boards. Which boards are active? It depends on your opponent’s last move. For example, if your opponent played in the ninth cell (left column, top row), then your next move must be inside the first small board.
Important! There is one exception: if your opponent sends you to a small board that has already been won or is completely full, you can play in any free cell on the main board.
To win the game, you need to win three small boards in a row on the large board: horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
If the entire main board is filled with Xs and Os and no player has three small boards in a row, the game ends in a draw.
The game is specially designed for two players. So, in Ultimate Tic-Tac-Toe online game, players can compete against each other or against a computer opponent, making the game perfect for socializing with family or friends, as well as for individual relaxation or strategic skills training.
