In this game, each move requires deeper thinking and detailed planning. Two players can play it: either two individuals, two teams of players, or a person against a computer.

Ultimate Tic-Tac-Toe Board Overview

Ultimate Tic-Tac-Toe is an expanded version of the classic game.

The game consists of a large 3x3 global board, each field of which contains a smaller 3x3 mini-board. As a result, the total number of game cells is 3x3x3x3=81.

Basic Ultimate Tic-Tac-Toe Rules

1. Learning how to play Ultimate Tic-Tac-Toe begins with understanding the order of play. The first move can be determined by rolling dice or flipping a coin, or players can agree verbally. In subsequent games, the right to start first passes to the players one by one.

2. The game begins with a player making a move in any of the 81 free cells.

3. This move "sends" the opponent to a corresponding mini-board. For example, if player X makes a move to the bottom right corner of any mini-board, then O must make the next move in the bottom right mini-board.

4. In response, O "sends" the opponent to a mini-board of their choosing so the turns continue.

5. A mini-board is considered conquered by the player who aligns three in a row in that specific mini-board.

6. If a tie is reached on a mini-board, it is considered a draw and does not form part of any three-in-a-row on the larger board.

7. If a player is sent to a mini-board where a victory has already been claimed or a tie has occurred, they may choose any available space on the larger board for their move.

Game Result

A player wins if they line up three of their conquered mini-boards in a row on the large board.

If neither player manages to line up three in a row on the large board, the game is considered a draw.
